Acute appendicitis in people with AIDS

The United States reported in 1996 that there were 1 million people living with HIV and 270,000 people living with AIDS. According to the United Nations in 1997, 30 million people worldwide were living with the AIDS virus, and its incidence is increasing. As a result, surgeons have more and more opportunities to deal with the general surgical illnesses of these patients and lesions secondary to AIDS. Although AIDS patients with acute appendicitis are few, they have a high misdiagnosis rate and many complications. They need urgent attention from gastrointestinal surgeons.
