Suppurative endophthalmitis
The vitreous body is non-vascular tissue and is rich in water and protein. Once pathogenic bacteria invade, it is easy to reproduce and cause inflammation and abscess formation. It is called purulent endophthalmitis. Only endophthalmitis caused by bacteria or fungi is discussed here. It is the most common suppurative endophthalmitis in the clinic. It is dangerous and develops rapidly. It has great damage to eye tissue and visual function. If the treatment is not timely, the inflammation can develop to the sclera, extraocular fascia and orbital tissue, which is called "panophthalmitis", so it is one of the main diseases that need urgent treatment in ophthalmology. Another type of purulent endophthalmitis is caused by lens allergy or copper rust.
