Oral lichen planus

Oral lichen planus is an inflammatory disease that affects the skin and mucosal surface. It is speculated that it may be caused by damage to epithelial basal cells mediated by autoreactive T lymphocytes. The clinical and histopathological manifestations are very similar to the graft-versus-host response. Oral damage occurs in 10% to 50% of patients with lichen planus.
