Balantidiasis coli is a common parasitic protozoal disease caused by the colonic balantidium coli in the human colon. The clinical manifestations are abdominal pain, diarrhea, mucus, pus and blood in the stool, exacerbation, and fever. Chronic persistent patients present with alternating constipation and diarrhea or periodic diarrhea. At present, the disease has been confirmed in 22 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China.
