Colorectal carcinoid
Colorectal carcinoid (Carcinoid), also known as pheochromocytoma, occurs in the intestinal mucosal glands of argyrophils (Kulchitsky cells), which are pheochromotropic. Because it mostly occurs from the lower part of the mucosal layer, it extends to the submucosa at an early stage and was once attributed to a submucosal tumor. This disease is a rare, low-grade malignant tumor that mostly grows locally and invasively, but rarely metastasizes. Carcinoids occur in the appendix, small intestine, rectum, stomach, duodenum and small intestinal diverticulum.
