Thyroglossal cyst
Thyroglossal cyst refers to a congenital cyst left in the neck during the early embryonic thyroid development when the thyroglossal duct is incomplete and does not disappear. There is often accumulation of epithelial secretions in the cyst. The cyst can communicate with the oral cavity through the blind hole of the tongue, and the secondary infection can rupture to form a thyroglossal fistula.
