Whole blood selenium

The total amount of selenium in adults is 14 to 21 mg. After selenium absorbed from the intestine enters the plasma, it is mainly bound to blood globulin and lipoprotein and transported to systemic tissues. It is mainly stored in the liver, kidney, spleen, lung, heart muscle, and blood, and about 1/3 of selenium is present in glutathione peroxidase. Its content is rarely excreted before the body is unsaturated. Excess selenium entered into the body can be converted into volatile dimethyl selenium from the liver and expelled from the breath. The main excretion route for selenium is still urine. The physiological function of selenium in the body is to maintain normal myocardial metabolism; as a natural antidote for the body's natural antioxidants and heavy metals; selenium is also related to immunity. Chronic selenium deficiency in humans is also closely related to the occurrence of certain cancers, cardiovascular diseases, and endemic cardiomyopathy (Keshan disease).
