Rotation
AlteRNAte motion is to instruct the examinee to repeatedly and quickly tap the back of the other hand with the palm of one side and the back of the hand, or to continuously and quickly tap on the bed or table. Patients with ataxia are awkward, slow, and irregular. Rapid dyskinesia on one side is suggestive of lesions in the cerebellar hemisphere on that side.
