Cerebrospinal fluid aspartate aminotransferase

Cerebrospinal fluid aminotransferase activity measurement only reflects the central nervous system lesions. It is because of the influence of the blood-brain barrier that the aminotransferases in cerebrospinal fluid and serum cannot communicate with each other. Diseases outside the central nervous system generally do not affect the aminotransferases in cerebrospinal fluid. Therefore, central nervous system disease is different from liver disease, and AST is more diagnostic value than ALT.
