Urinary ammonia nitrogen

Most ammonia in the body synthesizes urea through the ornithine cycle in the liver. One part is used for the amination of ketoacid to synthesize glutamine, which forms amine salts in the kidney and is excreted from the urine. Urinary ammonia nitrogen plays an important role in the diagnosis of diabetic ketoacidosis and liver dysfunction.
