The pre-S2 antigen in the serum of patients with acute hepatitis B induces the production of pre-S2 antibodies (Anti-PreS2) before the virus is eliminated, but there is no such special conversion in the process of chronicity, suggesting that this antibody may predict the recovery of HBV infection and Like -HBe, it is a marker of reduced viral replication.
