5-HT is an indoleamine. 5-HT energy neurons are mainly concentrated in the mesial nucleus group located in the midline of the brainstem, and its fibers reach the cerebral cortex, striatum, blood brain, and hypothalamus Down to the glial area, lateral and anterior horns of the gray matter of the spinal cord. The synthesis of 5-HT is that tryptophan generates 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) under the action of tryptophan hydroxylase, and then decarboxylates to produce 5-HT under the catalysis of serotonin decarboxylase. Under the action of monoamine oxidase, 5-HT is degraded to 5-hy-droxyindole acetic acid (5-HIAA).
