Incision and drainage of retropharyngeal abscess

Postpharyngeal abscesses occur in the posterior pharynx space, and are more common in children between 3 months and 3 years of age. Because of the rich lymphoid tissue in the posterior pharynx space, often due to upper respiratory infections, otitis media, and tonsillitis, the infection can be transmitted to the posterior pharynx space via the Lymph nodes can cause postpharyngeal lymphadenitis or even abscesses. Posterior pharyngeal wall injury (foreign body or various trauma) causes cellulitis in the posterior pharyngeal space and forms abscesses. Tuberculous lymphadenitis of the posterior pharyngeal space and cervical tuberculosis can also cause post-pharyngeal cold abscesses.
