Suspected condition

Hypochondriasis, also known as hypochondriacal neurosis, mainly refers to patients with this disease who are worried or believe that they have a persistent preemptive idea of one or more serious physical diseases. Repeated medical tests are negative and doctors explain that there is no evidence of the corresponding disease nor can they dispel patient concerns, often accompanied by anxiety or depression. Doubts or preconceptions about physical malformations also belong to this disorder. This disease is rare. According to the epidemiological survey of neurosis in 12 regions of the country, its overall prevalence is only 0.15permil; the psychiatry department of West China Medical University found that it accounted for 9.0% of neurosis in a county hospital outpatient survey. In the analysis of 500 consecutive cases in psychiatric clinics, only 1 case was seen in neurosis, which is very different. Statistics abroad show that this disease accounts for 1% of the total number of hospitalized patients. There is no difference between the sexes. The age of onset is mostly 40 years for men and 50 years for women. It is not uncommon for the elderly.
