Soft palate with scars
In patients with palatopharyngeal insufficiency, physical signs of scars and defects in the soft palate were found on examination. When the "ah" sound was made, the soft palate and the posterior wall of the pharynx could not be closed. Pharyngeal insufficiency is a pronunciation and swallowing disorder caused by soft palate or pharyngeal wall lesions that prevent the pharynx from closing properly.
