Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a chronic progressive non-specific inflammatory disease of the aorta and its main branches. There are different disease names in history to describe this disease, such as venous disease, aortic arch syndrome, Gao'an disease and so on. The disease is more common in young women, with about 90% of cases occurring before the age of 30, and fewer cases after the age of 40. The disease occurs in Asia, the Middle East, and is rare in Western Europe and North America. The age of onset is mostly 5 to 45 years, with an average age of 22 years, and about 90% of patients develop the disease within 30 years of age. More common in young women, the ratio of men to women is 1: 9.4 in Japan and 1: 3.2 in China.
