Heart stiffness

"Being stiff and slow is an inevitable result of aging, or is it actually related to some factor?" This is Dr. Benjamin Levine and colleagues at the Dallas Institute of Sports and Environmental Medicine and 12 of their sedentary elders examined , 12 outstanding athletes in their 60s, and a group of sedentary adults less than half the age of older subjects. They scanned the track records to find outstanding athletes in track and field, biathlon, and cycling, and selected subjects who had consistently won the race in the 65-year-old and above. Researchers bet that these elderly athletes are well-adapted and maintain good condition for decades of continuous, endurance exercise, so it may prevent the so-called "hardening" of the heart caused by old age and maintain compliance of the left ventricle, and may avoid diastolic heart failure .
