Thyroglossal cyst and fistula

Congenital thyroglossal cysts and fistulas, also known as anterior cervical midline cysts and fistulas, occur during the development of the thyroid gland without degradation or incomplete degradation of the thyroglossal duct. It can occur anywhere from the blind hole in the tongue to the notch on the sternum. The internal fistula of the thyroid tongue fistula is located in the blind tongue, and the external fistula is on the front midline of the neck or slightly to one side. When the cyst is located under the hyoid bone, the fistula connecting the cyst and the blind hole of the tongue can travel through the hyoid bone, in the hyoid bone, or behind the hyoid bone.
