Traumatic meningitis

Traumatic meningitis is more common in patients with open head injury, firearm injury and skull base fracture. Often related to late treatment of the wound and incomplete debridement. Most are diffuse purulent meningitis, caused by bacteria invading the subarachnoid space. The pathogenic bacteria are usually Staphylococcus and Streptococcus.
