Ischemic colitis

Ischemic injury caused by occlusion of the small and large arteries supplying the colon or insufficient blood perfusion. It is common in hypovolemic shock, heart failure, mesenteric arterial embolism or thrombosis, after abdominal aortic reconstruction or aortic arteritis. Acute colonic ischemia is transient and reversible, with severe intestinal necrosis, perforation, or persistent intestinal ischemia in the right.
