Barium poisoning

Barium and its compounds are widely used. Common barium salts include barium sulfate, barium carbonate, barium chloride, barium sulfide, barium nitrate, barium oxide, and the like. Except for barium sulfate, other barium salts are toxic. Barium sulfide contained in depilatory drugs, barium chloride, barium carbonate, etc. contained in agricultural pesticides or rodenticides are soluble barium salts, which are very toxic. If accidentally eaten by children, they can cause barium poisoning (Barium poisoning). Barium chloride has been mistakenly used as alum for making churros, pasta, and other foods, and barium carbonate has been mistakenly used as cooked gypsum in soybean milk, which has caused many people to poison. Impure barium sulfate for X-ray imaging or misuse of other barium salts as barium sulfate can cause poisoning accidents. There have also been reports of misuse of potassium chloride (containing barium salt) for laboratory use as an intravenous infusion to cause death from poisoning.
