Childhood mental disorders and mental retardation

Childhood mental disorder refers to mental disorders that occur more frequently or only in childhood. Mental disorders described in the previous sections are more common in adulthood, but a few can also occur in childhood. Childhood usually refers to the age of 12 to 14 years, but this chapter includes the age of 18 years, and adults over 18 years old. ICD-10 lists more than ten types of childhood-specific mental disorders. This chapter describes three.
