Open neck injury

The neck contains the cervical spine, pharynx, larynx, trachea, esophagus, and important blood vessels and nerves. Mandibles, sternum, clavicle, shoulders, cervical spine, etc. provide support and protection, but open injuries are still not uncommon. An open injury of neck can often cause partial or complete rupture of the laryngotrachea, pharyngeal esophagus, cervical spine, etc., and cause cervical emphysema, pneumothorax, hemothorax, or even pericardial tamponade and major hemorrhagic shock. The condition is very dangerous, with a mortality rate of 2% to 10%. Therefore, first aid must be provided immediately on site. Pay attention to protect the cervical spine during transport to prevent reoperation injury.
