Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in the elderly

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is characterized by asymmetric myocardium, uneven hypertrophy, and decreased ventricular cavity. Heart disease of unknown cause. Typical ventricular septal hypertrophy is far more pronounced than the free wall, causing left ventricular outflow stenosis, so it is also called primary hypertrophic subaortic stenosis (IHSS). The basic abnormal change is diastolic dysfunction of the left ventricle and impeded blood filling. The incidence of HCM is mainly middle-aged and young, with more familial incidence. However, in recent years, the incidence of the elderly has gradually increased. Among a group of 44 patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in China, 36.3% are over 60 years old.
