Retropharyngeal space infection

Infection of retropharyngeal space is a purulent infection that occurs between the pharynx, the posterior wall of the esophagus, and the prevertebral fascia. Infants and young children who often occur in frail and malnourished people often come from nose and ear infections or cervical tuberculosis. Respiratory tract infections appeared early in the clinical stage, and posterior pharyngeal wall abscesses gradually formed. Due to oppression of the abscess, throat edema, difficulty breathing and swallowing. Due to the narrowing of the resonance cavity of the pharynx, the child had duck-like voices or crying. A physical examination revealed a stiff neck. Early clinical incision and drainage of pus and systemic anti-infective treatment should be performed.
