Chorea of pregnancy

Chorea gravidarum is a rare pregnancy complication and is currently considered a late-onset small chorea caused by pregnancy. The clinical manifestations are dyskinesias with dance-like involuntary movement, decreased muscle tone, and weakened muscle strength. The etiology of chorea in pregnancy is unclear. Pregnancy is only an inducement. Pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome can cause this disease. The patient has no history of infection or heart disease. The dance-like movement immediately stopped after termination of pregnancy. A few authors believe that chorea in pregnancy can be induced by psychiatric factors, systemic toxemia, or infections such as mild encephalitis.
