Neck rigidity

Xiang Qiang is a symptom of meningeal irritation and has important diagnostic value. As the meninges at the posterior cranial fossa are stimulated, the cervical spinal cords 1 to 4 and the corresponding cervical nerve roots are involved, causing the inner cervical deep muscles, trapezius muscles, and sternocleidomastoid muscles to be overstretched and contracted. More common in various meningitis or meningeal irritation, such as subarachnoid hemorrhage. It can also be found in increased intracranial pressure, retrocranial fossa lesions, tetanus, and neck disorders such as cervical spondylosis, tuberculosis, trauma, deformity, and so on.
