Meconium constipation

Normal neonates usually excrete meconium for the first time within 12 hours of birth, or it can be extended to 12 to 24 hours, and very few of them begin to defecate within 24 to 48 hours. If the neonate has thick meconium and accumulates in the sigmoid colon and rectum, he does not start to defecate 48 hours after birth, and transient symptoms of low intestinal obstruction appear, which is called meconium constipation or meconium embolism.
