Lacrimal secretory immunoglobulin A

SIgA is a dimer containing secretion tablets and J-chains. It is present in colostrum and mucosal secretions such as tears, saliva, gastrointestinal and respiratory secretions, and is produced by plasma cells in the mucosa, providing the body with resistance to microbial invasion The first line of defense, along with lysozyme and lactoferrin, plays a role in local humoral immunity in ocular tissues.
