Pathological reflex examination

An abnormal reflex that occurs only when the central nervous system is damaged is called a pathological reflex. The appearance of pathological reflexes is a confirmation of the damage of the pyramidal tract, indicating that the pyramidal tract has lost its inhibitory function on the brainstem and spinal cord. Infants and young children under 1 and a half years old can develop the above-mentioned reflection phenomenon because the pyramidal tract is not fully developed, and they are multilaterally symmetrical. If the above-mentioned reflection phenomenon occurs in adults, it is pathological reflection. Pathological reflex examination commonly used clinical examination methods are: Babinski (Babinski) sign, Oppenheim (Oppenheim) sign, Gordon (Gordon) sign, Chaddock (Chadock) sign and so on.
