Swallowing

Aerophagia means that a baby inhales a large amount of air while sucking. The swallowed air collects in the lower part of the stomach, while the milk stays in the upper part of the stomach. The air cannot escape in time and enters the small and large intestines. The muscles produce paroxysmal spasms, causing abdominal discomfort or severe abdominal pain.
