Thoracic collapse

Deformation of the thorax is common in the funnel chest. The signs of the funnel chest, the sternum (especially the root of the xiphoid process) and the corresponding 3rd to 6th rib cartilage on both sides of the funnel are inwardly collapsed, causing the front chest wall to look like a funnel, and the heart is displaced by compression.
