Lacrimal gland pleomorphic adenoma

Pleomorphic adenoma of the lacrimal gland, also known as mixed lacrimal gland tumor, is an epithelial tumor of the lacrimal gland. It originates from epithelial cells with multipotential differentiation potential, and its mesenchymal component is the product of metaplasia. This disease is the most common epithelial tumor in lacrimal gland tumors, with an incidence of about 49% to 58% of lacrimal gland epithelial tumors, 25% of lacrimal fossa tumors, and 3% to 5% of orbital occupying lesions. Benign pleomorphic adenoma of the lacrimal gland is a benign mass composed of epithelial and interstitial components. The modern point of view is that these two components come from the epithelium, so benign mixed tumors that could be called in the past should be replaced by pleomorphic adenomas. This name has been adopted by the World Health Organization.
