Serum monoamine oxidase

Monoamine oxidase (MAO) is an enzyme that reflects liver fibrosis and can be divided into two categories: one is present in the mitochondria of the liver, kidney and other tissues, and uses FAD as a coenzyme to participate in the catecholamine catabolism. Another type is found in connective tissue, is an extracellular enzyme, without FAD and contains pyridoxal phosphate, and only works on primary amines. MAO in serum and MAO in connective tissue are similar in nature and can promote the maturation of connective tissue. In the process of collagen formation, it participates in the formation of bridges in the final stage of collagen maturation, allowing collagen to bind with elastin.
