Jaundice check

The jaundice test is a test of the physiological jaundice that appears after the birth of the newborn. The physiological jaundice is that the serum bilirubin gradually increases from 17 to 51 μmol / L (1 to 3 mg / dl) to 86 μmol / L (5mg / dl) or more, jaundice appeared clinically without other symptoms, and subsided within 1 to 2 weeks. Physiological jaundice does not exceed 204 μmol / L (12 mg / dl) in serum full-term infants, and preterm infants do not exceed 255 μmol / L (15 mg / dl). However, bilirubin encephalopathy can also occur in serum of less than 204 μmol / L (12 mg / dl) of individual premature infants. Be alert to physiological jaundice to prevent misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis of pathological jaundice.
