Serum protein electrophoresis

Proteins carry different amounts of negative charge under alkaline conditions and move from the cathode to the anode in an electric field. Acetate film and agarose gel are the two most commonly used media. Due to the difference in isoelectric point of albumin, after electrophoresis, it can be divided into five regions from positive to negative: albumin, & alpha; 1-globulin, & alpha; 2-globulin, & beta; globulin and & gamma; globulin. Serum protein electrophoresis is a technical method to understand the main components of serum albumin. Serum protein electrophoresis is used to reflect the degree of liver cell damage and the extent of lesions. It can also be used to reflect other diseases such as kidney disease, rheumatic immune system disease, etc.
