Oxytocin

Oxytocin (OT) is a 9-peptide hormone synthesized from the supraoptic nucleus, secreted by the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus and stored in the posterior pituitary gland. It differs from ADH only in amino acids at positions 3 and 8. Its physiological role is to promote the contraction of uterine, mammary epithelial cells and smooth tubule smooth muscle. In addition, it can promote luteal degeneration, have a natriuretic effect, and promote the transport of sperm from the vagina to the fallopian tube.
