β-galactosidase

GAL is a hydrolytic enzyme in the lysosome of the cell, which is higher in the renal proximal tubule epithelial cells. GAL activity in urine can reflect the renal parenchyma, especially the early damage of renal tubules. It can be measured with urine N-acetyl- & beta; -D-glucosidase (NAG) for urinary enzyme spectrum analysis, which is helpful for the observation of disease course and Prognostic evaluation. The diagnosis (including prenatal diagnosis) and basic research of human & beta; -galactosidase deficiency in the field of genetics are also important indicators.
