Reticulocyte index

The reticulocyte count is calculated based on the ratio of it to mature red blood cells. Reducing the number of red blood cells in anemia patients will inevitably lead to an increase in reticulocyte counts. This error can be corrected by the hematocrit. However, in normal human blood circulation, the reticulum structure disappears for about one day. However, due to the increase of erythropoietin in anemia patients, the bone marrow often releases reticulocytes into the blood in advance, resulting in a significantly longer maturation time of reticulocytes in the blood, which leads to The number of reticulocytes in the middle increased, in order to eliminate these false positive increases in reticulocytes, Finch proposed to use the reticulocyte production index (RPI) to correct for anemia.
