Bone marrow imaging

Bone marrow tissue is divided into two categories: red pulp with hematopoietic function and yellow pulp with main components being adipocytes. Normal adult red pulp is mainly distributed in the trunk, skull, femur and proximal 1/3 of the humerus. All bone marrow cavities of newborns are filled with red pulp, and with age, peripheral red pulp gradually shrinks from far to near. Under the influence of pathological factors (hypoxia, anemia, etc.), the process of red pulp to yellow pulp can be reversed. At present, the commonly used clinical detection techniques cannot show the distribution and activity of red pulp. Radionuclide bone marrow imaging can show the total volume, distribution range and functional status of local bone marrow, and provide accurate location for bone marrow biopsy.
