Endarterectomy

As early as the early 1950s, Spence (1951) in the United States first performed endarterectomy. In 1953, DeBakey successfully reconstructed blood flow for endometrial resection for patients with complete internal artery occlusion. For half a century, especially after the results of large-scale randomized trials in the North American Symptomatic Endarterectomy Trial (NASCET) and European Arterial Surgery Trial Collaboration (ECST) in 1991, Status is beyond doubt, with an annual surgical volume of up to 100,000 in the United States.
