Bolton grid sign

Pottenger's sign is the "Pottenger intercostal muscle palpation sign", which allows the patient to sit and breathe evenly in a warm room. The examiner underwent contrast palpation on both sides of the chest wall to check the tension of the intercostal muscles and experience the resistance with breathing. This sign is found if the tension of one or local intercostal muscles is significantly increased compared to the contralateral one. This sign is helpful for the diagnosis of inflammation of the lungs and pleura. It may be caused by inflammatory lesions of the lungs and pleura that stimulate the parietal pleura or stimulate the intercostal nerves to cause the localized tension of the intercostal muscles at the corresponding site to increase. .
