1. Diagnostic puncture: confirm that there is fluid in the thoracic cavity; determine the nature or cause of the effusion through the puncture fluid test and case examination. 2. Therapeutic puncture: Relieve intrathoracic compression by pumping fluid or gas; injecting drugs into the thorax to treat empyema, pleurisy, artificial pneumothorax, etc.
