Hydroxyapatite deposition disease

Hydroxyapatite is the main mineral salt of bones, including teeth. Hydroxyapatite deposition disease is the deposition of hydroxyapatite in bone and external tooth tissue, which is ectopic calcification. Ectopic calcification can occur in various parts of the body, including local and systemic connective tissue, joints and surrounding joints. Calcification of joints and surrounding tissues often causes no symptoms, but it can sometimes cause acute arthritis and many other chronic joint disorders. The general symptoms of this disease are mild, or even without any symptoms, but can also cause joint destruction deformity and require joint replacement surgery. Hydroxyapatite is deposited around the joints and can occur at any age, but is more common in the elderly.
