Breast Filariasis

Filariasis of breast is a filamentous granuloma that occurs when bloodworms parasitize the lymphatic vessels of the breast, causing blockage of the lymphatic vessels. Men and women can get the disease, but the majority are women. Adult women have very rich breast lymphatics, especially during pregnancy and lactation. Under the action of sex hormones, the volume becomes larger and the lymphatics expand, which provides more opportunities for bloodworm parasitism. The disease is characterized by breast nodules and is sometimes difficult to distinguish from cancer. Therefore, the differential diagnosis of the disease is very important.
