Serum hepatitis B e antigen

Hepatitis B e antigen, abbreviated as HBeAg, is a soluble protein in the core particles of hepatitis B virus. It is the second serological antigen marker that appears after human infection with HBV. HBeAg increased transiently during acute hepatitis, appearing during the incubation period before the rise, and then decreased rapidly with the improvement of the condition, and finally disappeared. The detection rate of HBeAg increased during the active phase of hepatitis B, indicating that the liver cells were severely damaged and the patient was highly infectious.
