Serum androstenedione

The biological activity of androstenedione lies between the highly active androgen testosterone and the weakly androgen dehydroandrosterone. Androstenedione has the properties of prohormone. In women, 50% of androstenedione comes from the ovaries and 50% from the adrenal glands. The levels of androstenedione in adult males are slightly lower than in women of the same age. Menopausal women have decreased levels of blood circulation due to decreased adrenal and ovarian levels.
