Gonococcal Proctitis

It is mainly found in male homosexuals, accounting for 40%. Women are mostly caused by vaginal infections, accounting for 35% to 50%. Symptoms of rectal gonococcal infection can be only anal itching, painless mucus-like purulent discharge, or a small amount of bleeding, but also manifested after acute and severe, purulent stool, anal mucosal congestion, purulent secretions, and positive gonococcus culture. Male homosexuals are mostly asymptomatic, and the isolated gonococci are mostly resistant strains. This may be due to the rapid killing of certain highly sensitive strains by bile salts or fatty acids in the stool. It often contains a variety of drug resistance genes, making treatment difficult.
