Aortic intestinal fistula

Aortoenteric fistula (AEF) refers to the pathological communication between the aorta and the adjacent intestine. According to the cause of the disease, it can be divided into two types: primary and secondary. The primary AEF has no history of aortic surgery, but the erosion of the arterial wall directly penetrates to the adjacent intestine due to the disease of the aorta itself. Seen in the duodenum; secondary AEF is due to the formation of a pseudoaneurysm at the anastomosis of the transplanted blood vessel after aortic surgery, and then ruptures and penetrates the intestine. Therefore, the secondary AEF is also called a graft (artificial blood vessel). -Intestinal fistula. Secondary AEF is much more common than primary.
